When I Switched to Paint. Thumbnails for The Infographics Show — illustration by Igor Ianchenko

At some point I wanted to see what happened if I stopped working clean. Vector is fast and precise, but it has a ceiling - everything sits on the surface. Raster lets you go deeper: dramatic lighting, rough textures, faces that actually look worn.
This collection is from that period. Same channel, same volume, same CTR pressure - but painted in Photoshop. King Charles, Soviet spies, Navy SEALs, worst punishments in history. The subject matter tends toward the heavy, and the style followed. It was a good experiment. Eventually, we went back to vector - but I came back knowing more about light and form than when I left.
